In recognition of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, French Hospital Medical Center’s (FHMC) Hearst Cancer Resource Center invites breast cancer patients and all community members to learn about the benefits of integrative therapies. (See Flyer)
This free community workshop will take place on Thursday, October 18, 2012, between 6 and 8 p.m. in the FHMC Auditorium, 1911 Johnson Avenue, San Luis Obispo. At the community seminar, event attendees will learn about the benefits of integrative therapies, healing-oriented medicine that takes account the whole person (body, mind, and spirit), including all aspects of lifestyle. The discussion will focus on how integrative therapies empower patients and will offer integrative therapy demonstrations for attendees.
“Integrative therapies are a bridge between traditional medical practice and the complementary healing arts,” explains Beverly Kirkhart, Hearst Cancer Resource Center Director. “This combination of conventional and complementary health care increases optimal outcomes and encourages cancer patients to be active participants in their journey to wellness.”
The integrative therapies workshop will feature a panel of medical oncologists from San Luis Obispo Coastal Integrative Cancer Care and Zoe Wells, N.D., specialist in natural medicine including cancer wellness. The event’s integrative therapy demonstrations will include acupuncture and pressure points performed by Patrick T. Paine, L.Ac., Restorative Yoga and Integrative Restoration performed by Mary Sage Sennewald (owner of Sukha Wellness Center), stretching and flexibility exercises for patients performed by Jan Secord, ACSM, and Tai Chi Chih demonstrations by Linda Brauser, Hearst Cancer Resource Center exercise instructor.
All event attendees will receive a complimentary light meal. Space for this event is limited and reservations are required. To book a reservation, community members can contact FHMC’s Hearst Cancer Resource Center at (805) 542-6234.
