Cardiac Wellness Education Series


Goal: To provide education regarding cardiac health and wellness to:

  • the general public
  • those identified at risk for heart disease through the HeartAware program
  • those diagnosed with heart disease
  • Cardiac Rehab patients

When: 1:00 – 2:00 pm on the 2nd Tuesday of every month starting in February 2010 (except June 2010):

  1. Diet and your Heart Feb 9 and Jul 13
  2. Risk Factors for your Heart Mar 9 and Aug 10
  3. Exercise and your Heart Apr 13 and Sep 14
  4. Medications for your Heart May 11 and Oct 12
  5. Emotions and your Heart Jun 1 and Nov 9

Where: FHMC Auditorium

Presenters: Cardiac Rehab staff (RNs and Exercise Physiologist), Dietitians, Coastal Cardiology staff (NP as guest speaker optionally). We will invite Cal Poly students / interns to participate.

What: Free 5-lecture series offered on a continuous schedule. Format will include lecture with PowerPoint presentation and question/answer. Select presentations will include a short cooking demonstration and tasting. Mild movement and stretching will be included in the exercise presentation. Handouts, interactive worksheets and evaluation forms will also be used.

How emotions and stress affect your heart
